US President Donald trump said that the international coalition troops will leave Iraq within three years. This is reported by the Associated Press.
The American leader noted that the coalition has already withdrawn most of the contingent, which left a small number of military personnel there. It is also noted that Washington and Baghdad have agreed to form a special group that will deal with the issue of the relocation of coalition forces outside Iraq. At a meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kazemi, the parties discussed possible threats from the Islamic state (banned in Russia).
On January 5, the Iraqi Parliament decided to withdraw all foreign troops from the country. At the moment, the military of the United States, great Britain, France, Germany and other countries are located there. The US called this initiative a disappointment.
The decision to withdraw troops was made after the killing of Qasem Suleimani, General of the Iranian special forces “al-Quds” IRGC, by the us military in Baghdad. The order to eliminate it was given personally by trump. Washington explained its actions as self-defense, since several attacks on the bases of the international coalition and the American Embassy were carried out before that. Tehran called the General’s murder an act of terrorism.
